Mail Merge error: WPS Writer cannot open the data source

Mail Merge is a useful feature in Word, as it allows you to send documents to multiple recipients at once with just a few clicks.

Error Description:

When merging emails, the WPS Writer cannot open the data source window that pops up.

Analysis:

One of the causes of this error is the lack of [the Access Database Engine] software.

Solution:

Start by installing the Access Database Engine software. After the installation, restart WPS Office desktop, and then try reopening the data source.

Step 1: To download the Access Database Engine software, click on the link provided:

Alternatively, if the link doesn't work, you can search for Access Database Engine on Google.

Note: Ensure you install the 32-bit version as WPS Office is currently in the 32-bit version.

Step 2: Choose the 2016 version, the latest available.

Step 3: After clicking the link, you'll be redirected to the official Microsoft website. Click on the download button.

Step 4: Select the 32-bit version of Access Database Engine and click Download.

Step 5: Locate the downloaded file on your system and open it to start the installation.

Step 6: During installation, a pop-up may indicate that the 64-bit version is already installed. Confirm uninstallation of the 64-bit version, ensuring it won't affect other software. After confirmation, proceed with uninstallation and install the 32-bit version.

Step 7: If a pop-up appears after uninstalling the 64-bit version, further uninstall Office 16 Click to Run Extensibility Component. Search for the uninstallation method on Google if needed.
